British Values thread through all that we do at West End. Our school council and sub-committee representatives are elected via a class voting process. The pupil voice groups share decision-making through discussion, debate and respect. Our pupil voice groups play an integral part in our school development and work with our school staff, PTA, governors and wider community to achieve their goals.
School Council
This first term has seen our new councillors meeting each other and sharing visions about what they would like to achieve this year. We have had some great suggestions already, with all members sharing a similar goal of wanting to raise money for charity both local and worldwide. We started off with a request for harvest donations to support Horsforth food bank.
Members have also expressed a desire to follow the legacy of last year's council and continue to work with Mrs Broadbent to improve our school library and reading resources. Thanks to the fundraising from last year's School Council members in the Summer term, we have been able to purchase a range of non-fiction books to add to our existing library stock.
School Council are supported by sub-committe groups who represent our school values:
Eco-warriors
Our Eco-warriors are responsible for our weekly composting, promoting reduce, reuse, recycle. They also create enticing habitats for insects and animals on our school site. As well as this, they work with Horsforth Climate Action Group to improve our local area.
Digital leaders
This group of pupils investigate ways to promote and develop pupil safety in line with our value of personal responsibility. In particular, they promote safety online running assemblies and providing class support across school. They play a key role in supporting pupils during our Internet Safety Week.
Playground leaders and Librarians
To develop our value of social responsibility, we have teams of pupils who develop areas of school for children to use during their free time. Our librarians run a weekly reading session at lunchtime to enable all pupils to share a love of reading. They make sure that the books are engaging and link to pupil interest and keep our library tidy. Our playground leaders support children of all ages through a range of games and activities. Throughout the summer months, they run activities at lunchtimes for all children to access.
